Handling Probate Court Forms
Updated: 6/20/05

If the below instructions do not work on your computer, then just disregard, and then go to California Probate Forms - click here (under forms - Probate - Decedents Estates), and then use the "fillable pdf format" - fill in the form with the information and data provided below, and print it out, and then send your forms by fax to Prof. Lampert - (818)385-0367 - Do not mail through the regular mail, it just takes too long for this accelerated course (Summer 2005). If you have MS Word, the documents can be word processed in MS Word and then attached as an attachment to the assignment box under assignments. You can also download a plug-in called "omni" through AmericanLegalnet, and that will allow you to work on forms, save them, and attach them. Unless you are pretty good with the computer DO NOT try to do this. Also Please do not contact American Legal Net about that program. They provide this service to our program free, and instead contact Prof. Lampert or Jordan on how to do this.

1. First Download the following file "omni" by clicking here. Then once you have saved the file, then go to the file where you saved it, and click on it. Then click on setup/next/yes, then check the box "set up for use as a separate helper application", then click on next, and the files will be copied over to your computer hard drive as a "stand alone program. It will say "set up is copying files to your computer"

2.Then I recommend you turn your computer off and then on again, click on start/programs/caera applications/and omniform internet filler. If it then says open file, it is working properly.

3. Then go to http://profj.us/legalresearch, to read how to use American Legal Net. You will need to get the forms from that website to work on with the "omin" program you just downloaded.

4. Go to http://americanlegalnet.com, Then click on product services on left side of the page, then on upper right of page, California Judicial Council Forms, it will then ask you for username and password, type in username ("lawteacher"), and password ("lamc"), then click to login, and then click on California Court Forms, and in category, click on "probate decedents estates", and click, it will then list the various forms you need, and go to the form you need to work on.

5. When you open the form you will see yellow spaces, and those are called "fields", and fill in those yellow fields with the information required for the form. (If you do not see the yellow spaces or fields the program is not installed properly. Do NOT spend a lot of time trying to make this program work on your computer. It is better time spent to work on the "fillable"pdf files, print them out, then fax them to Prof. Lampert.

6. Look under #4 and #5 under the etudes "classroom" for the set of facts you are to use for each of the forms, and the forms themselves. All of the forms require you to use the "correct Court Address and location". Here are the Court Locations. This will also help you the "Filing Locator". You absolutely MUST have the correct location of the Probate Court. Prof. Lampert will not accept any of your forms if they do not have the CORRECT COURT Address. To determine the correct court address, "hint" - look at the Mickey Facts. Also look at the Probate Process.

Follow the Court Rules in preparing your papers,

Good Luck.
