Guidelines & Instructions for

LACCD Fred Aves Scholarship

Guidelines:

• For Vocational Students with financial need, above average grades, with identified potential, and demonstrated school and community involvement.

• Students chosen should be enrolled in programs leading to jobs in high demand areas with the most promising opportunities,

• The grade point average must be 2.5 or higher.

• Establishing economic need can be done by accessing the financial aid database AND by including working students.

• The amount is $26,500 for each college to be awarded in $ 500 and $1,000 dollar scholarships. Colleges decide how many of each they want. (See table attached)

• Scholarships will be awarded for the vocational programs that you choose. (Although Health Careers was a priority for the CA Foundation, it may not be the program with the most need for these scholarships at each college)

· Be enrolled at one of the nine LA Community College Campuses for a minimum of 12 units

· Complete an application

· Obtain a faculty referral/recommendation

Instructions for Scholarship Application

§ Step 1. Student completes and signs the Student Application.

§ Step 2. Student returns the completed Student Application to Department Chair

§ Step 3. Department Chair forwards application to Dean

§ Step 4. Dean verifies GPA and financial need.

§ Step 4. VTEA Chairs meet and recommend final awards.

§ Step 5. VTEA Dean returns applications to Diane McBride, LACCD Office of Workforce Development.
