About our Presenter:
M. Catharine (Kay) Hudspeth, a mathematics educator, developed
the MEP at Cal Poly Pomona.
In that capacity she developed along with faculty colleagues Academic
Excellence Workshops to enhance the academic performance of technical
students in foundation mathematics, chemistry, and physics courses.
These workshops, lead by upper-division undergraduates, both increased
the grades of the students and increased their retention rates
in technical majors. She has led workshops across the country
for educators seeking to adapt the workshop model to their campus.
Campuses where she has recently worked with faculty and/or facilitators
include El Camino, Fresno, Hancock, Hartnell and the CSU LSAMP.
After her retirement from
Cal Poly Pomona, she continues to teach mathematics part-time.
